A review of the Yahoo game Taxi gone wild.

May 10th, 2008 || Renaults

Now I know this isn’t the coolest game or even that well known, but this game is addictive and really fun. While I had some down time today and was bored as hell I decided to play it. Read the rest of this entry »

Had enough Persona? Probably no.

March 18th, 2008 || decoy

Persona 4. July 10th release date in Japan. Looks a lot like Persona 3. I’ll update this shortly.

Communities are back. The visual style has been retained entirely. The main character personae don’t strike me as being particularly interesting looking.

Webcomics: the Ignored Art

February 29th, 2008 || Slash

We as a community know our fair share of webcomics. We also hate more than our fair share of them, but that’s not really the point here. The point is that too many of these bits of creative genius go under the radar, and the writers and/or artists eventually give up on them, depriving what audience there was of a regular bit of thrill when they click the bookmark to find a new comic awaiting them. What you’re going to be reading is a list of comics that I think you may not have heard of, and reasons why you should have heard of them, and should now dedicate your lives to them like they are that lumpy bit of flesh that is you undeveloped twin brother…or more than that, because I think most people usually chop that thing off.

ANYHOO.

Herbie Hancock is back, and he’s still got it.

February 21st, 2008 || Boss

So, Herbie Hancock’s latest album, River: The Joni Letters, was released a few months ago. However, as far as I’ve heard from the media, it hasn’t really generated much buzz until recently, after it got a few nominations for the grammys. I downloaded it after hearing it won album of the year, the first time a jazz album has done so in 43 years, and I wasn’t surprised to find out it fucking rocks.

Considering the last couple of things Herbie has released (i.e. Possibilities, a pretty pop-oriented collaboration piece), River is like going back to his glory days with Miles Davis’ second legendary quintet. Most of this album (songs like Nefertiti, Sweet Bird, and Solitude) is straight-up, unadulterated jazz. But that’s not to say his electric side that shined in the 70’s and 80’s isn’t present - just listen for the funky guitar in Edith and the Kingpin, and you might start remembering bits of Rockit or Chameleon.

The first track, “Court and Spark” (to remind you the album is a tribute to Joni Mitchell), is really the signature piece in my eyes. A soft melody on the piano starts it out, then the bass and rhythm kick in to bring it all together. And when Norah Jones starts singing, it gets you right into the mood of the whole album.

All in all, River is a definite must-listen-to for any fans of Herbie, and I would recommend it for anyone who likes music in general.

2008 Movie Circlejerk Ceremony 9000

February 19th, 2008 || Gila

Alright, so… Oscars. I guess they are happening this Sunday. Jon Stewart will be hosting again, which is the only conceivable reason I can come up with for watching this stupid fucking affair as opposed to just checking out the results Monday morning. Let’s just look at some of the categories.

Best Picture:
Michael Clayton
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Men
Atonement
Juno

Rank is a lazy sack of fuckpiss

March 7th, 2008 || rank

Cancer doesn’t want to do it, and my week has sucked so I’ll just message it to you (I’m not looking up the thread that tells me how to do this). It’s gonna suck, but whatever

This Week Sucks: Mid-Terms, bitches, and booze

Normally my weeks suck anyway, but this particular one was an epic fail of Abobo proportions, both literally and physically. On any given week the week consists of “goto class, do homework, get home, feed the cat, do some artwork and then wait for the weekend to drink and start the process over”. So lets begin.
