Day of action for Tibet Indians and Tibetans are to hold demonstrations, vigils and sit-ins across India to show their solidarity with the protesters in Tibet.
Pakistan elects leader Pakistan’s new parliament is scheduled to elect a new prime minister following talks between the Pakistan People’s party and Pakistan Muslim League to form a coalition government.TUESDAY 25
Beijing torch relay starts The torch relay for the Beijing Olympics is set to begin in Greece. The 130-day, 137,000km relay will take in five continents and the summit of Everest, visiting each of China’s 31 provinces before arriving in the National Stadium in Beijing (to August 8).
Lebanese presidential vote The Lebanese National Assembly is set to make a 17th attempt at electing a new president. Deadlock has reigned since November.
Prayer for female priests A world day of prayer for women’s ordination, an annual event held on the feast of the Annunciation to call for the Catholic Church to allow women priests, is to be held.
Human rights report The UK Foreign Office is due to publish its 10th annual human rights report, outlining the ways in which it thinks it has supported and promoted human rights during the past year.
Muslim newspaper awards Monthly UK newspaper Muslim News is scheduled to host its eighth annual awards ceremony in London.
China-West Africa forum The commission of the Economic Community of West African States and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade are scheduled to host the first joint economic and trade forum in Beijing (to March 28).
Greek celebrations Greece’s Independence Day commemorates the Greek uprising against the Ottoman Empire in 1821.
Spanish government talks José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, re-elected Spanish president and leader of the socialist party, is due to begin negotiations with smaller independent parties to form a new government.

Sarkozy visits Britain Nicolas Sarkozy, French president, is scheduled to make his first state visit to Britain, during which he will stay at Windsor Castle accompanied by his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. He will address the House of Commons and the House of Lords (to March 27).
Climate change bet The deadline is due to expire on a bet offered to climate campaigner and former US presidential candidate Al Gore. Scientist Scott Armstrong has bet $10,000 that temperatures will not rise by the end of the decade. The United Nations Climate Panel, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Mr Gore, has estimated that temperatures will rise by between 1.8 and 4 degrees celsius in the 21st century.
Bangladesh celebrates Bangladesh is scheduled to celebrate its national day. The holiday commemorates the country’s independence from Pakistan in 1971.

Rudd makes world tour Kevin Rudd, Australian prime minister, is scheduled to make the first big overseas excursion of his tenure with a tour of the US, Europe and China. Talks in the US, his first port of call, are expected to centre on Iraq, from where Australian combat troops will be withdrawn this year (to April 13).Burma military parades Burma is to mark the day its Independence Army revolted against Japanese occupation during the second world war with military parades.
African HIV Conference The National African HIV Conference, London, aims to focus on HIV prevention, treatment and care within African communities (to March 28).
Heathrow terminal opens Heathrow Airport’s new fifth terminal is scheduled to open for business, adding capacity for a further 30m passengers a year.
Lesbian and gay film show The 22nd annual London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival is due to open with Alex Keshishian’s Love and Other Disasters .
Asia-Pacific report The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific is to publish the “Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2008″ in New Delhi. The survey examines the region’s key short and medium-term prospects.

Arab states discussion The League of Arab States is due to meet in Syria. Topics of discussion include the presidential crisis in Lebanon, the Iraq war and Iranian influence in the region (to March 30).
Zimbabwe elections Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections. Robert Mugabe, president, will stand for re-election, having won a further term in office in 2002 with 54 per cent of the vote amid accusations of electoral fraud and intimidation of voters, leading to sanctions against his government.

Mekong conference The third Greater Mekong sub-region summit is scheduled to take place in Laos. The prime ministers of Cambodia, China, Laos, Burma, Thailand and Vietnam are due to attend (to March 31).
