Had enough Persona? Probably no.

Persona 4. July 10th release date in Japan. Looks a lot like Persona 3. I’ll update this shortly.

Communities are back. The visual style has been retained entirely. The main character personae don’t strike me as being particularly interesting looking.

“[You] does not want to be bisexual anymore. You want to fuck people in the ass and you dont want to get fucked in the ass. Anymore. Fed up with being fucked. Only want to fuck. So, you have to like this fuck the enemy this way. Their HP goes down and you kill them. if you get fucked in the ass, your HP goes down. And you can die, and it goes down to zero. But when it does happen when your HP goes down, you can recharge it using this magical blue ass.”

Seven minutes is a puzzle platformer of little longer than the namesake. Despite its brevity, it has a nice little ’story” of sorts to tell, and I assure you that the game will necessitate multiple playthroughs to get the true ending (the one with credits).

Seven Minutes is remarkable in its minimal amount of music and art assets. Stages are composed of largely the same type of brick throughout the game, but remain interesting as they deteriorate as the time ticks down, and as certain ones glow and pulsate (although i suspect this pulsating was the result of the in game framerate beating with my monitor refresh rate). This game is a good example of a well executed concept that can be done in a short amount of time (once the concept is constructed, that is).

Knytt Stories is the spiritual successor to the game Knytt, an atmospheric platformer with elements inspired by Shadow of the Colossus and Pikmin. If you haven’t played Knytt, I recommend you do so immediately.

There are several areas where Knytt stories improves upon in predecessor, including music and graphics, but the single function that stands out most is the built in editor. You see, Knytt Stories is not a single game, but a collection of stories revolving around the character Juni. Included with the game are the tools to make your very own story about her as well. While I do say story, story is not heavily emphasized in the game, but serves as a nice backdrop, and a simple motivation for progressing, although exploration alone is enough to keep some (myself included) satisfied.

Knytt Stories’ level editor gives people who have always wanted to make a game, but have never had the means or time to do so, to make a modification (very easily) for a very polished platformer. I have seen mods that introduce brand new functions into the game, and it is very impressive. Imagination, and a bit of artistic ability, is all you really need here.

Countdown to Persona 3 Fes

Persona 3, my favorite game of last year, and my second favorite RPG of the generation, had an expansion of sorts by the name of Fes (for Festival) released in Japan as a “thank you” to its fans. Earlier in the week, a “mysterious” countdown banner appeared on the front page of Atlus’ website. The background and design of the countdown is taken directly from the opening sequence of Persona 3 (screenshot above).

Fes contains an entirely new epilogue chapter, new personae and reworked skill sets of old personae, brand new social links (including Elizabeth), multiple costumes for each character (prepare to see many a otaku dress up their Mitsuru in bondage gear), a new weapon synthesis system, and an option to play on Hard.

A column primarily dedicated to covering obscure or strange freeware and retail games that generally won’t be getting much coverage by the conventional video game media. Occasional forays into the less explored aspects of mainstream games is also likely.
